CatSat and the Arizona Array offer hams the opportunity to push the frontiers of technology inclassic ham fashion. The inflatable antenna experiment and the Arizona Array of dishes are bothon the leading edge of technologies that will be developed as spacecraft shrink and more spacevehicles fly to greater distances. On the other hand, the HF experiment addresses questionsabout HF space-to-Earth propagation that have existed since some of us listened to Sputnik Iwith our ham radio receivers. The existence of a worldwide network of HF ham stationsbroadcasting their positions, combined with CatSat and the clever use of digital signal processingwill likely reveal unexpected phenomena. Given the creativity of hams, we expect CatSat will bejust the beginning of another chapter in space exploration enabled by amateur radio.
