The contex here is quick-look assessments of advanced space transportation systems for Earth-to-orbit operations for the full range of propulsion approaches. In the format of a "user's primer" this paper offers a simple, readily accessible graphical approach, for making fast, accurate, back-of-the-envelope level combparisons between vehicle systems powered by both all-rocket and airbreating/rocket propulsion combinations. It is based on the ideal rocket equation and a wider-utility variant of it, which is here introduced with fully-derived mathematical coverage (Appendix 1).
