Currently, the amount of resources used by the construction industry occupies a huge share of the industrial total in many countries and that also implies a huge share of waste. It is approximately 30% of total waste for many countries in Europa and tends to be treated through landfill*1. This material flow causes huge consumption of natural resources and energy, and scarcity of landfill space. Besides, it is pointed out the hazardous influence from leaching and methane emissions of landfilled waste*2. This requires higher level of waste exploitation such as reuse and recycling to achieve a sustainable society.
