MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF 3003 ALUMINUM ALLOY WITH Mg AND Ni ADDITION

摘要

A study of effects of adding elements and processing on themicrostructure and mechanical properties of 3003 aluminum alloyhas been carried out with a special focus on the effects of Mgalone and in combination with Mg and Ni in order to ensure it isable to withstand high temperatures. The additions of Mg orMg+Ni can decrease grain size of the alloys under differentprocessing conditions, and have AlMnFeSi and AlMnFeNiSicompound appearance. The tensile strength of 3003+0.3Mg and3003+0.3Mg+0.2Ni alloys is increased to about 25% and 55% atroom temperature, and 58%, 80% at 200°C and 53%, 100% at250°C respectively. Especially, the creep resistance of3003+0.3Mg+0.2Ni alloys has been significantly improved with asteady state creep rate decrease in two orders of magnitude. Therelationships among microstructure, composition and propertiesare also discussed, which explains the reason of propertyimprovement, especially high temperature performance.
