Study on Transient Saturation Characteristic of Current Transformer

摘要

Current transformer (CT) is an important measuring equipment to transfer the current signal from the primary side of the system to the secondary side. Most relay protection depends on the current signal transferred by CT. However, CT is prone to transient saturation due to the influence of the aperiodic component of the fault current. This paper deeply analyzes the transient saturation characteristic of CT from the perspectives of equivalent circuit calculation and saturation mechanism and verifies the influence of aperiodic component on the saturation characteristic of CT through PSCAD/EMTDC software simulation. The measures to reduce the influence of transient saturation of current transformer on relay protection are introduced. It is of great significance to improve the performance of relay protection and the stability of electrical power system.
