Alternative partitioning strategies for database storage are examined in the context of a main memory database environment. Possible partitioning techniques are introduced, and the overall approach used to perform analysis is described. Each partitioning technique is examined and ranked on the basis of its performance for eight different properties that affect processing performance. Recommendations for selecting the best approach are provided.
