A novel method, dubbed CK method to determine the surface softness of embossed or creped tissue papers was developed. The testing results of this new method were compared favorably with those of artificial finger tip method and the subjective hand-feel method. The CK method is a simple way to measure paper surface softness. Some issues involved in practical application of the method were also discussed.
