During several field trials over the past few years, Argosphere ocean surface drifters ahve proved to drift with the thicker parts of oil slicks for up to several days. with GPS navigators integrated in Argos huoys, the positioning accuracy is improved, and tracking can be carried out in near real-time by direct communication between the buoys and oil spill response vessels.
