As part of an effort to deveop an In-Situ Burn (ISB) system, the US Navy Supervisor of Salvage (SUPSALV) fabricated and assmebled a rapid respose ystem that consists of multiple sectons of 3M model 18/24 fireboom, mounted in dpeolyment trays, fire fighting equipment; safety equipment; an operations manufal; and an ignition system. In the development of the ISB system SUPSALV identified a need for a safe, nad-deployable igniter that could ignite contained diesel fuel and crude oil emulsions on the water.
