A three-dimensional numerical model is developed to simulate the behaviour of buoyant oi jets from underwater accidents and smoke plumes from oil burning. The numerical model is developed based on the Lagrangian integral technique. The ambient conditions can be stratified or unstratified and flowing. The ambinent current can be multi-directional, spatially varying, and time dependent. The fluid in the buoyant oil jet can be a liquid or liquid/gas mixture that is typical of many underwater oil-related accidents. The model formulation of buoyant oil jets includes the diffusion and dissolution of oil from the jet to the amient environment. The model is suitable to simulate well blowout accidents that can occur in depp water, including that of the North Seas.
