Osteoclast marker enzymes, such as membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP), matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), cathepsin K, and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP), have been implicated in osteoclastic migratory activity and osteoclastic bone resorptive activity. Bone matrix proteins may play important roles in the regulation of the gene expression of these enzymes through cell-matrix interaction. In this study, we attempted to obtain information about the gene expression of MT1-MMP, cathepsin K, MMP-9 and TRAP in pure rabbit osteoclasts induced by ivory and different bone matrix proteins such as collagen type I (Co I), fibronectin (FN), vitronectin (VN) and osteopontin (OPN).
