A new ladle furnace at the stainless steel making plant AvestaPolarit in Sweden has been equipped with a Level 2 computer system delivered from ABB in Sweden. The computer system includes functions and metallurgical models for production scheduling, production supervision, reporting, alloy calculation, steel temperature calculation, steel temperature prediction and heat tracking. The database used is an Oracle Data Base and the functions and the models are running on a PC with connection to the process. The computer system is used for 100% of the production and the calculation results from models match plant measurement well.
