The effect of the addition of HfO_2 and CeO_2 to the high oxide ion conductivity solid oxide ZrO_2 with llmol%Sc_2O_3 (11ScSZ) on the electrical conductivity and the crystalline structure has been examined. 11ScSZ has the rhombohedral structure and is transformed to cubic structure at 580°C. The cubic phase was stabilized at room temperature by addition of about 6mol% CeO_2 to 11ScSZ. No such effect was observed by addition of HfO_2. The electrical conductivity of 11ScSZ was depressed by the addition of HfO_2 and CeO_2.
