Block Island is located near the coast of the Rhode Island mainland. For a variety of reasons, the utility will make major investments in new capital to provide power to its customers. This paper is a preliminary evaluation of the use of clean distributed resources (photovoltaics, wind, efficiency, and cogeneration) to provide power to customers on the island. The conclusion of the paper is that a system based on clean distributed resources has the potential to be a feasible alternative. Results indicate that a detailed analysis of this alternative is warranted.
