摘要

Background/Objectives. Vast research and experience treating contaminated water on the surface has allowed improving methods to eliminate or degrade unwanted substances. Adapting these methods to treat groundwater with increasingly more difficult contaminants is a challenge that has been achieved successfully in many cases. Nevertheless, emulating subsurface natural degradation processes has enabled accomplishing more sustainable soil and groundwater clean-up methods. Along these lines, gaining a better understanding of altered geochemical and microbiological processes due to chemicals of concern within a groundwater plume, may lead the choice of a bioremediation approach for distinct zones within the plume.
