Background. This presentation describes in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) pilot testing activities that were performed to develop a full-scale remedial design for the source area treatment of trichloroethene (TCE) in groundwater at a site in north-central New Jersey. The site is a former industrial research and development facility that has impacted a crystalline bedrock aquifer with TCE (at concentrations up to 59,000 micrograms per liter [μg/L]) at various depth intervals. Approximately 155 tons of TCE impacted soil were excavated and disposed off site in 2006. The ISCO pilot testing activities were performed at the site in two phases.
