Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) particles are used as organ-specific contrast media in Magnet Resonance Imaging (MRI), e.g., to enhance detecting of small metastases in the liver. For other indications like MR-lymphography, the rapid uptake of the particles by the MPS with subsequent accumulation in liver and spleen has to be reduced or preferably prevented.
