摘要

Electronic commerce (ecommerce) takes place in a "digital information environment," an information intensive and dynamic social context which strongly influences the character of business conducted on the web. This paper examines the social context of ecommerce and, more specifically, focuses on a subset of this context, called information imperatives;" these are rules that are critical for ecommerce firms. The paper concludes with a discussion of the organizational changes that can be expected to accompany the incorporation of these imperatives into the mission and core business processes of ecommerce firms.
