Characteristics of direct contact boiling heat transfer in lead-bismuth/steam-water two-phase flow was investigated experimentally using a high pressure lead-bismuth-steam-water loop. Water was injected into Pb-Bi flow at the outlet of an electric heater pin bundle and subsequently boiled in a vertical circular tube. Local temperatures in the test tube were measured under the conditions: the system pressure of 7MPa, Pb-Bi inlet temperature of 460°C, and the injected water temperature of 220°C. Overall volumetric heat transfer coefficient was estimated from heat transfer rate. The overall heat transfer coefficient decreased with the superheat at low injection flow rate and was nearly constant for high injection flow rate. The local heat transfer coefficient was higher than average one in the whole tube, which means that the direct contact boiling heat transfer coefficient was high near the injection region.
