Infostation is a novel concept for the intelligent next generation network that has been proposed to provide adaptive high speed data services. The Infostation radio and protocol must support the adaptive transmission scheme under a varying fading environment. This paper investigates the system performance and capacity as well as the rate adaptation algorithm for an Infostation system. The throughput orbits delivered when a mobile terminal passes through(walk-through and drive-through) an Infostation cell is analyzed versus the data rates. An efficient channel state estimator is proposed to decide when to change the data rate.
