In the present investigation the dynamic effects of a railway bridge that is part of the Taiwan High Speed Rail Project (THSR) due to the operation of the high speed trains will be studied. The bridge has a total length of about 67 km and consists in the major part of single span precast box girders with a length of 30 and 35 meters. For the computations a 3D finite element model with shell elements was used for the box girders. Before the time domain analysis was carried out, the natural periods of the structure were calculated in order to determine critical train speeds with a maximum dynamic response of the bridge. For the time domain analysis the application of the time dependent high speed train loads on the box girders will be shown. The results of the analysis prove that all design criteria concerning permissible displacements and rotations are met and a safe, comfortable train operation is guaranteed.
