Burntwood bypass, Staffordshire: design, construction and performance of road pavement made from incinerator bottom ash treated with PFA and lime ― a case study
This paper describes, from design to structural monitoring, how a 1.5 km bypass in Burntwood, Staffordshire, was constructed using incinerator bottom ash, pulverized fuel ash and quick lime to produce a granular fly ash mixture. The resultant mixture was laid as the sub-base and roadbase layers under a conventional asphalt basecourse and SMA wearing course.
