We investigated the causes of intratracheal explosion using a YAG laser and rabbit tracheal tissue model. Oxygen concentration was increased stepwise from 0.21 to 1.0. The laser output was also increased in 5 W steps from 5 W to 40 W, and the degree of cauterization observed. At an oxygen concentration of 0.21, tissues were cauterized at a laser output of 30 W and above, and no explosion occurred.
