摘要

International Standardization Organization (ISO) is now considering new limit state based technical standards of various structures including geotechnical engineering facilities. It intends at the final stage to formulate international standards for civil and building engineering. EUROCODE standards, which are being discussed among European counties in these days, will most probably be adopted as ISO standards. If this happens, it may have some negative implications for APEC economies such as South Korea, which has a completely different type of technical standards, especially since the ISO code is compulsory for member economies of the WTO. For these reasons, this paper reviews the current status of design standard, and introduce joint study for future development of design codes for port and harbor facilities including Geotechnical aspects in South Korea.
