A new method of assignment of allowable design values for compression perpendicular to grain, shear parallel to grain and modulus of elasticity in a flat orientation for Machine Stress Rated lumber has been adopted that permits increasing design values with increasing MOE of the grade. This method recognizes the increase of specific gravity with grade and uses this specific gravity as the predictor variable for the compression and shear design values. The machine-measured stiffness is a direct predictor of MOE-flat and is assigned as a relationship with the MOE-edge assigned to the grade.
