A neutron source based on inertial electrostatic confinement is a potential candidate to be used for a detection system of landmines. Not only CW but also pulsed operation of inertial electrostatic confinement fusion device has been demonstrated and a neutron production rate of 5 X 10~(6) n/s has been attained at an applied pulse voltage of 30 kV, a current of 2 A and a filling pressure of 10.4 mTorr D_(2). The result for the pulsed operation reveals that the neutron production rate is obeying the same scaling law obtained for the CW operation.
