Excitonic solar cells and solar cloths were fabricated by a commercially viable nanofabrication technique, known as electrospinning. The electrospun continuous metal oxides were either used as such or broken into high aspect ratio (10:1) nanowires for fabrication of excitonic solar cells. Transient photocurrent spectroscopic measurements have shown an order of magnitude increase in the diffusion coefficient of TiO_2 nanowires in the presence of the iodide/triiodide electrolyte compared to the random continuous nanofibers. For solar cloths, the electrospun nanowires duly anchored to a dye were dispersed in a polymeric hole conducting medium and the resultant solution was spun into a cloth of non-woven fibers. The solar cloths showed relatively high open circuit voltage. Attempts are currently underway to optimize the performance of solar cloths.
