NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF SEDIMENT MOVEMENT IN HEAVY SILT-LADEN FOREBAY

As a transition construction of water intake pumping station, the forebay will be helpful to direct the water smoothly and evenly from the original cannel to supply to every pump for a long standing state. Many reasonable measures have been adopted to improve the flow condition successfully, however, on sediment deposition, the usual means are experiential analysis and physics models only. Based on the past research, the horizontal 2-D flow and sediment mathematical model has been established under orthogonal curvilinear coordinates. The model can be used to forecast the sedimentation after model parameter determine and practice verification. In this paper, one certain forebay including the consideration of modifying the velocity near pumps has been taken for instance. In addition, the sediment depositions of two projects are forecasted, after a long time operation. The result is reasonable and has a practical application value to guide the operation.
