Caustic soda is a globally traded commodity that is consumed in a wide variety of manufacturing processes across the globe. Unlike the co-product chlorine, however, caustic soda is rarely a large percentage of the content of end-use products. As such, caustic soda behaves classically to supply and demand imbalances. Caustic soda demand moves in the direction of general economic avitivity and is less dependent than chlorine on the durable goods and construction sectors.
