摘要

The emerging renewables industry is very exciting, bringing together the very best of biochemical technology and petrochemical processing to convert a broad range of biomass sources into value added chemical derivatives. It is an exciting time in CMAI for renewables as the market is asking many questions from "how eco- nomic is the process" through to "how do I participate in this growth industry". In this conference session Braskem will illustrate some of the new renewable–based enterprises they have begun in Brazil, converting bioethanol, derived from sugarcane into commodity polymers via ethylene. In the petrochemicals industry there have been announcements by Arkema for glycerine conversion into acrolein for acrylic acid production, Solvay has demonstrated glycerine to epichlorohydrin production. The list of new developments and projects approaching commercialization appears never ending.
