This afternoon I am going to be talking about two engineering plastics; polycarbonate and ABS. These materials represent two key demand sectors for the petrochemicals industry, in particular for the aro- matics area. They are also very important products in their own right contributing signifcant revenue and margin to some of the largest petrochemical and plastics companies in the world. The title of my presentation today is Polycarbonate and ABS – Revenge of the Fallen. ‘Revenge of the Fallen' is the title of one of the Transformer movies. In this flm inanimate objects such as kitchen appliances transform into robots and attack. PC and ABS markets were struggling in 2009, but in 2010 and into 2011 these markets have had a resurgence. The largest end use sector for ABS is Appliances and the surge in demand especially from the appliances sector, is one of the key reasons for the turn- around in the fortunes of these once ‘fallen' products.
