Propylene is the second most important light olefn after ethylene, being the frst petrochemical feed- stock employed on an industrial scale. Historically, propylene has been supplied primarily from olefns plants and FCC units, which are in turn driven by ethylene and motor gasoline production respectively. However, longer-term structural changes have started to reshape this background: while propylene demand growth is consistently outpacing ethylene and gasoline/distillate demand growths, new steam cracker investments for ethylene needs and new refnery FCC investments for gasoline/distillate needs are not keeping up with the propylene demand growth.
