Vast amounts of super-family data are available for many protein families and when properly organized the data can be used to gain insight into the functioning of specific protein members. 3DM is a tool that can automatically collect and store super-family data in dedicated super-family databases and the user friendly interface of 3DM provides a multitude of tools that can be used to analyze the data. These systems have been used in a large series of research projects on topics such as enzyme engineering (for improved activity, specificity or stability), DNA-diagnostics and drug design. We describe here a 3DM system generated for the P450 protein super-family and it's applicability for P450 related research.
