An Integrated Approach to Bio-control in Cooling Systems

It is widely accepted that successful treatment of cooling water systems must address three key areas: corrosion, deposition and biology. A similar three-part concept is useful for classifying chemical methods of biological control as oxidizers, nonoxidizers or biodispersants. While chemical agents are often viewed as the primary tools of bio-control, their success depends on another set of three "tools": selection, application and monitoring. Biocide selection, application and performance monitoring in aid of cooling water microbiological control are discussed along with developments that enhance performance of the chemical bio-control agents they support.
