摘要

A causative role of blood-brain barrier (BBB) impairment is suggested in the pathogenesis of vascular dementia. We reported previously that the BBB was deteriorated in the hippocampus of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHRSP), an animal model for vascular dementia. We examined gene expressions in the BBB-damaged vessels. The gene expressions of osteopontin, transforming growth factor-β receptors (TGFβ-RI, TGFβ-RII), Abcb1b, matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13), and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) were increased in the BBB-damaged vessels. These findings suggest that the increased expressions of these genes are related with the BBB damage and may be involved in vascular remodeling in the BBB-damaged vessels, and that these genes can be therapeutic targets for vascular dementia.
