In this paper, we propose a maintenance planning method that can decrease the life cycle cost and enhance the reliability of products. We have considered an example of valve actuators that are used in the air-conditioning systems of buildings. For this purpose, we analyzed the characteristics of the deterioration and failure modes of the valve actuators and the failure effects of each mode. Then, we evaluated the effectiveness of various maintenance plans by using a Monte Carlo simulation. For reducing the life cycle cost and environmental load while ensuring reliability, we have proposed and evaluated a combination of reuse and maintenance. The results show that the proposed plan can reduce the life cycle cost and CO_2 emissions by approximately 40% and 50%, respectively.
