The low level of vitamin E due to its malabsorption after gastrectomy for gastric cancer was observed in approximately 15% of patients, some of whom developed sensory polyneuropathy as well. In patients with neurological symptoms that fail to improve despite administration of vitamin B12, hypovitaminosis E should be suspected. We have already reported it in 2007 [1].In order to clarify vitamin E malabsorption after gastric surgery, we evaluated serum vitamin E level and neurological consequences in patients who had undergone gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
