Integrated mechatronic systems open doors to a better diagnosis and better control of actuators. Although its practical implementation has been limited, the combination of PLC (Power Line Communication) and distributed computing, now offers a smart and low-cost solution for in-car subsystems power management. The implementation of a robust PLC protocol allows drastic weight reduction of harnesses and improved connectivity. At the same time, distributed local computing enables high precision electrical load and sensor-less drive. The presentation will describe the practical implementation of distributed power management in seats and doors subsystems. A discussion will be conducted on innovative and/or improved functionalities offered by this real time power management technology and physical prototype realisations will be presented. Finally, improved functions like short circuit isolation and antipinch will be specifically addressed.
