Field surveying in archaeological sites is time consuming and ineffective. Due to the rapid urban expansion and development, archaeological site managers need more real time information of land use and land cover (LULC), otherwise the culture layer of archaeological sites can be rapidly affected or destroyed by human development. For this reason, GIS and remote sensing technology come out a better way to solve this problem. In this study, we applied orthogonal aerial photographs to interpret LULC types and compared the different time periods of land use and cover change (LUCC) results of the archaeological sites. Then we evaluated the interaction between the human land-use and the cultural layer. The results showed both natural plants and the human development led the destruction of cultural layers. Administrators can easily monitor the vulnerable area and ensure that cultural resource preserved continuity by using the new technology.
