摘要

The construction sector is undergoing rapid global changes, calling for a reform in the architecture and engineering education. Lebanon is an interesting case to study skill-shortage, future occupations and career opportunities within these professions due to its booming construction sector and its high level of integration with neighboring Arab Gulf countries. An employer survey identified 3 factors - thus called "influence factors" - that are radically transforming the professions of architects and engineers: technological innovation, global outsourcing of construction services, and the organizational shift towards a more fluid work environment. This paper analyzes how these influence factors affect the employ-ability and the future skill-gap and assesses the impact of identified changes on skill-requirements and skill-shortages. Substantive recommendations for the engineering and architecture education are suggested, including reforming curricula and competencies frameworks in order to reduce the skill-gap, with a view on their implementation.
