Next generation networks (NGNs) are evolving to accommodate a variety of new services and traffic types, while allowing a user to roam within the service area of the network, or between networks without deteriorating a predetermined quality of service (QoS). In order to establish a proper background for "end-to-end" QoS support, we have identified the key adaptation issues and proposed the framework for application level QoS adaptation. Our results have provided a basis for further research in the area of adaptive application QoS protocols for optimal QoS performances. These results can be applied in alternative cross-layer protocol design and implementation.
