The cunent status and directions for future research of a natural language processing and animation system are presented. A prototype system has been built, which allows a human operator to use natural language to instruct an animated human-like agent to perform goal-directed physical actions. Based on progress to date, development of a more complete system is underway, which will provide broader semantic coverage and more realistic looking animation.
