In November 1995, the Materials Technology Institute (MTI) of the Chemical Process Industries, Inc., funded Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) to perform an unbiased evaluation of the present state of the art of electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) technology for high-temperature (800 and 1200℉) nondestructive evaluation (NDE) to detect corrosion-like defects and determine remaining wall thickness. This evaluation was performed on test samples at temperatures covering expected field conditions.
