Challenges Faced During Construction of a Sewer and Water Line in a Man-Made Island During the America's Cup Races and the Republican National Convention
Shelter Island is one of the many famous tourist destinations that has earned San Diego the title of "America's Finest City". Shelter Island is home to many high-quality restaurants, first-class hotels, and the San Diego Yacht Club, which hosted the 1995 America's Cup Races. Shelter Island was created in the 1940's from hydraulic fill. The material for the fill was created by the dredging of Mission Bay. Access to Shelter Island is provided by one two-lane road called Shelter Island Drive, which is the only way on or off the island as shown on Figure 1 (attached).
