In recent years the development of cost effective high capacity workstations and servers has led to rapid advances in advanced simulation software for multi-discipline problems. Of specific interest to the rubber industry are the coupling of mechanical analysis of components such as seals and how they interact with their environment to modify sound transmissions from one domain to an adjacent domain. Another area of increasing importance is the simulation of contained fluids within elastomers, both from the viewpoint of transport and containment and of dampers, whose geometry can be modified to produce desirable amplitude and frequency dependent characteristics.
