Research was done on the application of sintered bearings having extreme accuracy and a low cost for a small sized motor that requires high speed and accuracy rotation. We produced two type of bearing, a normal round shaped bearing and one with inner grooves (three-lobe bearings) and measured the characteristic difference of repeated run outs and friction torque tests on both types of bearings. Research was also carried out for the optimal shape of the three-lobe bearing using a porous material and certain methods of manufacturing. The results of our research produced a three-lobe bearing with better properties in repeated run out and friction torque tests than a normal round shaped bearing. And, as a result of the optimal shape manufacturing examination, it was possible to confirm that the shape accuracy, with inner grooves, could be made at a μm level.
