Particle formation in a gas through chemical routes is a complex process which involves many steps including, chemical reaction, nucleation, coagulation and coalescence. These steps generally act at the same time and the final particle morphology is a result of a combined cause. It was shown before, however, that these steps can be distinct from each other on a time scale that characterizes each process. Therefore, by understanding the parameters that determine the characteristic times, it is possible to control particle morphologies through a series of process designs.
