This paper investigates the identifiability properties of the electric arc furnace (EAF) model developed at the University of Pretoria (South Africa). A study is carried out to explore possibilities for model adjustment by parameter estimation. This also involves an investigation to determine which model parameters can be estimated from given plant input-output data. The time dependence of the model to parameter changes is also considered.
