The article overviews the Greek marble sector and provides information on the historic development of the Greek marble sector and its geological background. Reference is made to the major marble-production areas. The great wealth of Greece with respect to deposits of high quality marble, mainly white types, in combination with a very long tradition in the art of marble, the roots of which reach the depths of centuries back ago, have much contributed to the development of the modern and dynamic Greek marble industry, that is classified among the top world producers of decorative natural stones, as concerns both sizes of production and exports.
