Optimistic time management strategy is often used in parallel discrete simulation systems to increase execution efficiency. This strategy allows causality constraint violation to occur and to support it, a rollback management mechanism must be adopted by the simulation system to rollback the system's erroneously processed event when straggler message arrives. This paper presents an object-oriented rollback mechanism that can be used in an object-oriented Parallel discrete event simulation environment. This design uses a hierarchy of objects called State Exchange Object, or SXO, to serve as an information record element for every rollbackable operation as well as the unit to perform the actual rollback action. The design utilizes a set of rollbackable classes and proper event data structure to realize full automation of the generation and management of these SXOs thus automatic and transparent rollback support can be achieved for the PDES environment.
